Food labels are hard to read in a busy store. Point your camera at the barcode and PCOS Scan does the reading for you.
How it works
- Tap Scan and point the camera at the barcode. It reads it on sight, no button needed.
- The app looks the product up in Open Food Facts, a free, open database of packaged food.
- You get one rating for the product, in green, yellow or red, with the reason and an estimated blood-sugar curve.
If the product isn’t in the database, take a photo of the label and the app rates it from that.
What it looks at
The rating is based on what’s on the label, like:
- Added sugar, which can raise blood sugar quickly.
- Fiber, which slows down how fast carbs hit your blood.
- Refined flour versus whole grains.
- Protein, which helps you feel full.
Nutrition follows the pack, per 100 g or per serving. For drinks and bars you’d finish in one go, it shows the whole bottle or bar.
Compare before you buy
Scan two yogurts or two cereals side by side and pick the better one. Every scan is saved to your log, so you can find it again next time. For home-cooked food, use the meal scan.
Questions
What if the product isn't found?+
The app asks you to take a photo of the label instead, and rates it from there.
Does it work with QR codes?+
No. Packaged food uses barcodes, and that's what the scanner reads.
